Analytically Pleasing: Eagles, Alec Halaby Impressed By Quinyon Mitchell

The Philadelphia Eagles thought highly enough of Toledo cornerback Quinyon Mitchell to make him their first-round selection in the 2024 draft.

From an on-field perspective, Mitchell has gone up against the best on the Eagles roster and come out looking like a top player on the young defense.

Analytically, Mitchell has been even better.

Assistant general manager Alec Halaby has been impressed with Mitchell from an on-field and analytical approach to this point as he prepares for his first season with the Eagles.

"You don't always know what the translation is going to be, so when we looked at him in college, you saw a guy who could play in a lot of different styles," Halaby said. "He was comfortable playing off (in off coverage), you saw that he could close very quickly, he could run with any vertical (route by a receiver), he was very ball aware, he was hyper-competitive, and I think that is what we've seen out here in a new system and environment. We've seen him in the nickel as well and when he's outside, he looks the same.

"Quinyon is going against better players than he did in college and that has been great for him. You see all of those underlying traits and his competitiveness."

Mitchell is expected to be a key player on the Eagles defense this season. If he's able to produce as well as he has in practice during games, Philadelphia might have solved their secondary issues at the best possible time.
