Angels News: Zach Neto Becomes Franchise’s First Infielder with 20/20 Season

Zach Neto has made history with the Los Angeles Angels , achieving a remarkable milestone that sets him apart in the franchise's record books.

During the Angels' recent game against the Detroit Tigers, Neto hit a two-run homer that traveled 400 feet, marking his 20th home run of the season.

This performance not only helped the Angels snap a seven-game losing streak but also made Neto the first infielder in the team's history to reach 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases in a single season.

Neto joins an exclusive club as the eighth player in Angels history to achieve a 20/20 season, following Shohei Ohtani, who accomplished the feat in both 2021 and 2023.

At just 23 years old, Neto is now one of only three Angels players under the age of 24 to reach this milestone, alongside Mike Trout and Carney Lansford.

His 20th homer also tied the Angels' record for home runs by a shortstop in a single season, previously held by Jim Fregosi since 1970. With a month left in the season, Neto is on track to break this record.

The Angels drafted Neto as the 13th overall pick in the 2022 MLB draft from Campbell University. He quickly advanced through the minor leagues, making his major league debut on April 15, 2023, and has been a consistent presence in the lineup ever since.

This season, Neto has emerged as the Angels' most valuable hitter, leading the team in several categories, including runs, hits, doubles, home runs, RBIs, batting average, slugging percentage, and OPS.

He has also logged the most innings in the field for the Angels this season, showcasing his defensive skills alongside his offensive contributions.
