The Philadelphia Phillies are battling the Atlanta Braves for the first game of their four-game weekend series. Behind 1-0 early, the Phillies may be holding their breath hoping there will be no more bad news.

In an at-bat in the first inning, Alec Bohm seemed to injure his left hand fouling a 2-2 four-seam fastball from Braves' starter Charlie Morton off to stay alive. Bohm would drop the bat and immediately begin shaking his left hand and arm in obvious pain.

Manager Rob Thomson and the team trainer would check on Bohm, but Bohm would remain in the game to finish his at-bat. He grounded out to former Philly Whit Merrifield at second for the second out of the inning, advancing Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber to second and third respectively.

Bohm would resume fielding duties in the top of the second, with only one ball hit in his direction. He would not bat in the bottom of the second, and Edmundo Sosa would take his place at third for the top of the third inning. Bohm's injury would be named "left hand discomfort."

Bohm has been one of the most consistent pieces of the Phillies lineup this season, and it will be a big blow to their lineup if his injury causes him to miss a significant amount of time.

His glove has been a revelation for the Phillies this season as well. Coming into the season as a well below-average defender at third base for his career, he has turned it around tremendously this season with eight Outs Above Average per Baseball Savant , ranking him 8th in MLB among qualifying third basemen.

The team reports that Bohm has had x-rays already and they have come back negative.
