'College GameDay' to Spotlight Miami TE Cam McCormick as He Enters Unprecedented 9th Season

Cam McCormick, who transferred to Miami from Oregon in 2022, is set to kick off his ninth season playing college football. "College GameDay" will feature McCormick ahead of the Hurricanes' Week 1 matchup against the Florida Gators, per James Crepea of The Oregonian.

The veteran tight end has dealt with a slew of injuries throughout his college football career. It's the reason why he's remained at the college level for so long. After playing the full 2017 season as a freshman at Oregon, McCormick suffered a broken ankle in 2018.

That injury kept him out of the 2018, 2019, and 2020 seasons due to complications from three separate surgeries. He then tore his Achilles tendon in the 2021 season in the Ducks' 35-28 win over Ohio State. McCormick bounced back in 2022 and played 13 games for the Ducks before transferring to Miami the following season.

McCormick also has a complicated past which was fully covered by Crepea. But it's not clear whether or not "College GameDay" will go into depth about McCormick's life story.

Despite that, McCormick's story ranges from complicated family issues, dealing with injury rehab, and still overcoming the adversity to continue playing college football.

The 2024 season is potentially the last year for McCormick's career at the college level. He hasn't had much of a chance to prove himself. However, he has a chance to build his stock for the NFL Draft as he's the starting tight end for Miami this season.

Since the injury woes, McCormick has stacked together two consecutive seasons without suffering an injury. In 2023, McCormick recorded just eight receptions for 62 yards.

Miami didn't feature the tight end group much in the 2023 season, as the group together totaled just 18 receptions, 154 yards, and two touchdowns. But things could change in 2024.

Miami is set to potentially go on a run this season in the ACC. Many like their chances thanks to Cam Ward playing quarterback. With the Hurricanes aiming to be a pass-first offense, there's a chance that McCormick and the rest of the tight end group see an inflation in targets.

The Hurricanes kick off the season against the Gators on August 31. It's a tough matchup to begin the year. However, Miami has a chance to set themselves apart from the rest of the ACC.
