There has been a ton of speculation around the future of Stephen Curry in recent months. The Golden State Warriors said goodbye to franchise icon, Klay Thompson, this summer as he joined the Dallas Mavericks.

That brought an end to the trio of Curry, Thompson and Draymond Green. Most fans would have expected, and wanted, the three to retire in the Bay Area.

Well, there was no fairytale ending for Thompson and the franchise he won four Championships with. Could it be the same for Curry?

Curry has been with the Warriors his whole career so far. And the reality of the situation is that he is in his twilight years as a player, even though he is still performing at an MVP level.

The Warriors do not look like contenders at the moment though. After seeing Thompson leave, they needed to bring in another superstar this summer. They could not, instead adding role players and trusting their youngsters to take the team forward next season.

That has led to rumors of Curry potentially looking to be traded in the future if the Warriors are not competitive moving forward. The Miami Heat have been suggested as a possible destination for the greatest shooter that ever lived.

But according to ESPN , Curry has agreed to a one-year, $62.6 million extension, his agent, Jeff Austin of Octagon, told Adrian Wojnarowski on Thursday. The agreement keeps him under contract with the Warriors through the 2026-27 season.

Of course, signing an extension does not mean that Curry is guaranteed to remain in Golden State. But considering the timing, it certainly feels like a statement of intent.

It is rare for legends to spend their entire careers playing for one franchise. It would only be right if Curry does that with the team he is synonymous with. Never say never in basketball though.
