Too Rich? Streaming Service Tests Knicks Fans Loyalty

Typically, one's visions of Batman and Joker come to mind when one says Gotham. However, the name takes on a new identity in the streaming era. In a new venture, the New York Knicks combined with the other professional teams of the Empire State for a local media partnership. The MSG and YES networks partnered for a streaming service titled Gotham Sports.

On the heels of its best season since the Carmelo Anthony era, the Knicks have the fans excited for the 2024-25 season. However, in a city that's already so expensive that many residents move south searching for more affordable housing, another charge will hit their accounts. Unfortunately, being a New York sports fan will hit the pockets deeper.

At one point, streaming was the affordable alternative to paying for cable. However, as companies unite, there are too many streaming apps to count, and streaming prices are starting to resemble those of cable.

The app's price tag is pretty steep, but for a hardcore New York sports fan, it might be worth it. It costs $359.99 annually or $41.99 monthly.

The Knicks finished the 2023-24 season as the two-seed in the Eastern Conference. Although they didn't finish the job against the Indiana Pacers, they reached seven games, and Jalen Brunson gave Knicks fans a reason to get excited again.

Following the Knicks' postseason run, the front office impressed the league, as did the players. The Knicks traded for Mikal Bridges, re-signed OG Anunoby, and signed Brunson to a contract extension, which saved the franchise $110 million.
