Ex-NFL GM: CeeDee Lamb Is Expendable if Cowboys Can Draft This College QB

Following Colorado’s 31-26 win over North Dakota State on Thursday night, many analysts and draft pundits are ready to put CU quarterback Shedeur Sanders firmly in the top five picks of the 2025 NFL Draft.

And while there’s no question Sanders will likely be one of the first two or three QBs picked, where he’ll end up is anyone’s guess.

But former New York Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum believes Sanders will ultimately end up with the Dallas Cowboys. He even made a head-scratching case for the Cowboys trading star receiver CeeDee Lamb to move up into the top five to land the 22-year-old signal-caller.

“[Dallas] can trade multiple first-round picks and maybe CeeDee Lamb,” Tannenbaum said on Friday’s episode of ESPN’s “Get Up.” “…If you’re starting over, yes, CeeDee Lamb is expendable. There’s a better chance, in my opinion, that Shedeur Sanders could be the quarterback there next year than Dak Prescott at this point.

“If Dak wanted to be there, the deal would have been done. And the way it’s going right now is Dallas is going to need a quarterback in the first round next year, and it would be the type of move where Jerry Jones could go up and say, ‘Hey, I’ve got a younger, better, cheaper quarterback in Shedeur than I did with Dak.”

Sanders impressed several scouts with his performance against the Bison. He completed 26 of 34 passes for 445 yards, four touchdowns, and an interception, and perhaps most notable of all, he was sacked just one time after leading the NCAA in sacks taken last year.

Prescott is in the final year of his contract with the Cowboys, and team owner Jerry Jones seems content with letting Prescott play out his deal and either try to sign him next offseason or let him hit free agency.

Shedeur has been linked to the Cowboys for the better part of a year now, given the ties his father, Deion Sanders, has to the team. Deion played for the Cowboys from 1995 through 2000, was a four-time All-Pro selection, and won a Super Bowl.
