Dalvin On Cowboys RBs: 'A Great Room!

    By Adam Schultz,

The Dallas Cowboys signed veteran running back Dalvin Cook to a one-year deal, giving Mike McCarthy another body for the offense.

While Cook, who is now wearing Tony Pollard's No. 20, will start on the practice squad as he works his way into football shape, it is expected that he won't be there for too long.

With Ezekiel Elliott, Rico Dowdle and Deuce Vaughn making up the room, Cook gave his thoughts on what the unit could be in 2024.

“I feel like this is a great opportunity for me to come in and help a greater organization win football games,” Cook said. “I look around at the running back room, it's a bunch of guys in there I can go in there and run the football with. Obviously, Zeke [Elliott] Rico [Dowdle], you got Deuce [Vaughn] in the room, some guys that I could go help out and push those guys, and we could be a great room together.”

Much has been made of Cook's big drop-off in production last season as he spent time with the New York Jets and Baltimore Ravens, but never really got going in either offense.

Cook would have just 214 yards from 67 attempts in New York and only managed 23 yards from eight carries in Baltimore during the playoffs. Prior to that, Cook was a perennial Pro Bowl running back who achieved the feat in four consecutive seasons.

Dalvin also shared his thoughts on his poor 2023 season.

“It was different,” Cook added. “I learned a lot, for me I always take things into lessons for me and that's just how I take it. But no hard feelings or nothing that I just grow from it.”

It's a new team and a new opportunity for Cook, and he'll be looking to prove his doubters wrong after a down season that saw many question his ability to be a productive NFL back.

He'll get the chance in Dallas, but will he make the most of it?
