Commanders' Jayden Daniels Working Overtime With New Receiver Noah Brown

The Washington Commanders added receiver Noah Brown after he was cut from the Houston Texans. Brown is trying to get up to speed before the regular season opens next week.

Not surprisingly, rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels came up with the idea to stay after practice and work with Brown to get him up to speed on the offense.

Daniels’ leadership qualities have shined from the moment he walked into the building. Veteran tight end even commented on how he viewed Daniels earlier in camp.

"A lot of quarterbacks, they win the Heisman; they get drafted No. 2 overall; that’s not how it is.,” Ertz said. “They’re almost different as a quarterback, but that couldn’t be further from the truth with Jayden. Jayden is a guy that brings people together.

“Guys want to be around him. He’s communicating with whether you’re a guy that’s in year 12 or on the practice squad last year. There is no agenda with Jayden. He’s here to be the best version of himself.”

Coach Dan Quinn admitted that it was the former LSU Tiger’s idea to stay after with Brown. Daniels was asked about working with him after practice.

“He’s new,” Daniels said, “I had a whole training camp with the other guys, and he just came, so just talking through stuff and get him up to speed as quickly as possible.”

There’s an old saying, “attitude reflects leadership”, and people in the building are just gravitating towards Daniels. Veteran defensive tackle Jonathan Allen has also praised his work ethic.

“He’s cool, man, he’s a quiet guy,” Allen said. “He comes in, he works, and I pride myself on being one of the first guys here and he always beats me here. So, I think that’s pretty cool.

“Stays late, you know, he does everything you want out of your No. 2 overall pick rookie quarterback. I’m excited to see him work, I’m excited to see him play and just focus on what I gotta do to make his life as easy as possible.”

When veterans like Ertz and Allen are singing your praises, you must be doing something right.

The Commanders kickoff their season against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on the road on Sept. 8.

Kickoff is set for 4:25 p.m. EDT.
