The Los Angeles Angels are making significant moves as they approach the final month of the 2024 season, prioritizing player development. They have called up two promising pitchers , Caden Dana and Samuel Aldegheri, to join the roster for their upcoming series against the Seattle Mariners.

Dana, the Angels' top prospect and ranked 74th overall in MLB, has been anticipated for a promotion due to the team's struggles with injuries in their pitching staff. Aldegheri, acquired in a trade with the Philadelphia Phillies, is set to make his debut as well.

“Well, he earned it,” Angels manager Ron Washington said Thursday, “so, we’re going to give him the ball. And I’m looking forward to watching him pitch. I saw him in Spring Training, and he’s gained a lot more experience pitching. It’ll be nice to see where he is.”

Manager Ron Washington is eager to see how both pitchers perform. Dana is expected to take the mound on Sunday, while Aldegheri will pitch on Friday night. The Angels are keen to evaluate their potential as they begin planning for the 2025 season.

“I don’t know much about [Aldegheri],” Washington said, “but he’s coming up and he’s pitching [Friday night]. I’m looking forward to watching him. We’ve got great reports on him. But I’m looking forward to the kid coming up and getting his feet wet, and see how he handles himself.

“We get the chance to look at some of our good young kids, and they’ve been handling themselves well.”

“They are two of our top guys [in the Minors], and with the way things are, they’re getting their chance. There’s nowhere else we can go. We’re going to have to see what they’ve got to offer. They’ve got good arms. They’re supposed to have a little bit of maturity. And we’re going to see all of those things in the next few days.”

With this call-up, the Angels' starting rotation has undergone significant changes. Only Tyler Anderson and Griffin Canning remain from the original rotation, as several pitchers are sidelined due to injuries. The upcoming games will feature Aldegheri, Dana, Canning, Anderson, and Jack Kochanowicz as the starting lineup.

As the Angels assess their talent, they hope these young pitchers can contribute to a revamped rotation moving forward.
