Cowboys: Dump Dak, Trade Lamb, Draft Shedeur?!

    By Mike Fisher,

FRISCO - Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders appeared on TV on Thursday night. The Dallas Cowboys, right now featuring Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb and Jerry Jones, are on TV ... constantly.

So why not have a guy who is on TV tie them all together in a big silver-and-blue bow?

Former New York Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum has a master plan. He is predicting that Sanders will ultimately end being drafted by the Dallas Cowboys. And how will Dallas move into position, assuming Sanders is highly-rated in the 2025 NFL Draft?

Simple, says Tannenbaum. The Cowboys will get into the top five by trading "multiple first-round picks'' along with the "expendable'' receiver CeeDee Lamb.

    Wait. What?

“They can trade multiple first-round picks and maybe CeeDee Lamb,” Tannenbaum said on Friday’s episode of ESPN’s “Get Up.” "If you’re starting over, yes, CeeDee Lamb is expendable. There’s a better chance, in my opinion, that Shedeur Sanders could be the quarterback there next year than Dak Prescott ...

“If Dak wanted to be there, the deal would have been done. And the way it’s going right now is Dallas is going to need a quarterback in the first round next year and it would be the type of move where Jerry Jones could go up and say, ‘Hey, I’ve got a younger, better, cheaper quarterback in Shedeur than I did with Dak.”

There is a lot to unpack here. Prescott is in the final year of his contract with the Cowboys, and he and owner Jones seems have both made noise about some level of contentment with letting Prescott play out his deal to enter free agency ... at which time Dallas could try to re-sign him. Or not.

There is also the question - if this is the plan - of why Dallas just this week closed a four-year, $136 million deal with Lamb that includes writing an immediate $38 million signing-bonus check. Why do that for a player already under contract if the plan is to trade him?

And then there is the judgment of Shedeur. Is he already deemed a top-five pick? Is he already destined to be "better'' than Dak, as Tannenbaum actually claimed? Jerry Jones Cowboys, as marketing-minded as they are, wouldn't really do all of this just because of the attention-getting ties with Shedeur's father, Deion Sanders, the iconic ex-Cowboy ...

    Would they?
