Infamous college football ‘sign-decoder’ Connor Stalions is back in the spotlight following the Netflix “Untold” documentary released on Aug. 27 that lets him tell his side of the story. The 2023 college football season cannot be explained without talking about the wild investigation into an alleged illegal sign-stealing operation, supposedly orchestrated by Stalions, before and during the Michigan Wolverines' national championship-winning campaign.

The documentary showed how instrumental Stalions was in the Wolverines' turnaround following a disastrous 2020 season, whether he’s proven to have broken the rules, or as he excuses it, simply exploited them. Regardless of the investigation's result, Stalions got the boot from coaching college football, but that doesn’t mean he's totally out of the game.

He accepted a volunteer job with the Mumford High School Mustangs, part of the Detroit Public School League, to serve as their defensive coordinator. His season opener didn’t go as you’d expect from someone who was considered the college football ‘Boogyman’ a little less than a year ago, allowing 47 points.

“Former Michigan sign-stealer Connor Stalions is now the defensive coordinator at [Mumford] High School in Detroit. In his first game last night, his team lost 47-6. Tough debut,” The Silver Bulletin posted on X.

He’s trending among rival fans after his high school coaching debut went totally wrong.

Other rival fans of the Wolverines couldn’t help but pile on.

“I guess he hasn’t been there long enough to steal the opponent’s signs,” Jay Crouch replied.

“Crazy how his teams don’t show up when he doesn’t know the play call,” Collin Crouse added.

“Connor Stalions debut as DC for Mumford HS in Detroit. JUST CONFIRMED: Thurston HS uses wrist bands,” Dan Divjak wrote.

Stalions is joining a team that only won two games total in the past two seasons. They recently hired head coach William McMichael who won several state championships while serving as an assistant at Belleville High School (Mich.) and featured the No. 1 overall recruit in the 2025 cycle, LSU quarterback commit Bryce Underwood.

However, all that coaching prowess, along with Stalions’ experience in the college ranks, didn’t lead to results in his debut for Mumford.
