'Big Opportunity!' A.J. Brown on Dotson

Just over a week ago, the Philadelphia Eagles acquired former first-round receiver Jahan Dotson from the Washington Commanders. Dotson was immediately installed as the No. 3 receiver behind A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith.

In an interview with Dave Zangoro on NBCSportsPhiladelphia.com , Brown said believes that Dotson is going to have a huge year with the threesome on the field at the same time.

“He has a big opportunity in front of him,” Brown said . “I’m not going to put too much on his plate, but he does. I can tell you guys when I line up, they’re yelling out, ’11 in the slot, 11 outside.’ Most of the time, I’m getting coverage rotated to me, most importantly.”

Since moving to Philadelphia, Brown has posted back-to-back seasons of 1,450 yards or more. He is one of the leagues most dominant receivers, so it makes sense that defenses will try to stop him first.

“Smitty has his 1-on-1 matchups,” Brown continued. “I don’t know how they do with Smitty so I can only speak for myself but I know they’re accounting for Smitty as well.

“It’s very rare that certain teams probably have three really, really good DBs. So, he has a big opportunity, he has mismatches all day and I hope he maximizes those mismatches.”

Brown may be onto something here. A lot of defenses move safety help over the top to his side of the ball. With Smith beating 1-on-1s and Dotson being lined up on every team’s nickel corner week in and week out, the former No. 16 overall pick could have a really good season for the Eagles.

That notion will be put to the test when the Eagles take on the Green Bay Packers in Sao Paulo, Brazil next Friday, Sept. 6.

Kickoff is scheduled for 8:20 p.m. EDT.
