Chiefs vs. Ravens Week 1 Matchup: 'Battle Royal!'

    By Adam Schultz,

The preseason is over, which means all eyes gravitate towards Week 1, and the Kansas City Chiefs open the season with a compelling matchup against the Baltimore Ravens.

With the Chiefs dumping the Ravens out of the postseason last year, winning 17-10 in the AFC Championship game, Baltimore will be looking for revenge against the defending champions. But Arrowhead Stadium will be bouncing as the home fans look to do their all to get their team over the line.

For head coach Andy Reid, he's under no illusions as to what type of game awaits his team in Week 1.

"We look forward to this challenge of playing the Ravens," Reid said . "They're a heck of a football team, John [Harbaugh] does a great job, along with his coaches, of preparing their guys. We know it will be a battle royal. It's just one of those games and we 've played over the years, and it's always a knockdown, drag-out, so this won't be any different. We're glad to have an opportunity to play here at Arrowhead; we've just got to take care of our business."

The Chiefs, in a stacked AFC, have the chance to own the tie-breaker over their rivals with the Ravens and then the Cincinnati Bengals up on the schedule first.

Given that many consider the Ravens and Bengals to be direct competition for the AFC with the Chiefs, if Patrick Mahomes and Co. can start the year 2-0, it would give them a big advantage in the seedings.

Of course, that isn't on the minds of Kansas City right now; it just wants to win and get its season off to the best possible start.

But make no mistake, this battle won't be for the faint-hearted, and we wait with anticipation to see who is left standing with their arm raised at the end of four quarters.
