Another former Nebraska Cornhusker athlete is shining on the world stage.

Friday afternoon, Petra Luteran finished second in her heat to advance to the women’s 400m final at the Paris Paralympics. She’ll now race for a medal on Saturday afternoon.

Luteran, 27, competed at Nebraska from 2017 through 2020, mostly in the high jump. There, she set a personal best of 6-0' 3/4" (1.85m) in 2018.

She suffered severe injuries in an ATV accident after graduating that led to the amputation of her left arm below the elbow. In recovering from her injury and searching for happiness, she returned to the track .

Not only did she excel but, thanks to Limb Lab in Omaha, she was also able get a custom-made prosthetic as she continued her pursuit of a spot in the Paralympics.

Now, representing her home country of Hungary, Luteran isn’t only competing in Paris at the Summer Games, she’s set to race for gold.

Her final is set to start at around 2:15 p.m. (CT) and will be available on Peacock.

The Paralympics started Wednesday and run through Sept. 8.

A total of 14 current and former Huskers also competed in the Olympics in Paris late last month into early August.
