Tylor Megill is back with the Mets following Paul Blackburn’s injury. Megill was an exciting prospect for the Mets the past few years. Mets fans and the organization believed he had the tools to be a trustworthy, top of the rotation starter. However, things never panned out for him.

Megill has a 4.79 career ERA. The 29 year old has never proved himself to be a consistent starter. Megill has made nine starts and one bullpen appearance in the majors this year with a 5.17 ERA.

Megill is frustrating because he has shown the ability to be great. Earlier in the year, Megil dominated the elite Dodger lineup. He allowed just three hits and struck out nine in seven scoreless innings. Megill followed that start by allowing five runs against the Nationals.

Megill has had success in AAA this year. In eight starts, he has a 3.15 ERA. In his last start, he only allowed one hit. The right-hander is clearly capable of pitching well in the Majors, especially against the White Sox.

It is not hyperbolic to say the White Sox’ lineup is closer to that of a AAA team than that of a top MLB team. Megill has had a lot of success in AAA this year. He should be able to continue that tonight.

Here is how the 31 win White Sox lineup against Megill:

    1.) 2B Nicky Lopez

    2.) CF Luis Robert Jr.

    3.) LF Andrew Benintendi

    4.) DH Andrew Vaughn

    5.) 1B Gavin Sheets

    6.) C Korey Lee

    7.) RF Dominic Fletcher

    8.) 3B Miguel Vargas

    9.) SS Jacob Amaya

    SP Jonathan Cannon

Jonathan Cannon gets the ball in the opener. Cannon is a 24 year old rookie. He has struggled this year, pitching to a 4.57 ERA. The right-hander has given up five runs in each of his last two starts but he has shown glimpses of potential.

Cannon had a two game stretch against the Astros and the Mariners where he only allowed one run in 15.2 innings but the young starter struggles with walks and home runs. He has allowed 4 home runs and 10 walks in just 20.2 innings in August.

Here is how Mets lineup against Cannon:

    1.) SS Francisco Lindor

    2.) 3B Mark Vientos

    3.) CF Brandon Nimmo

    4.) 1B Pete Alonso

    5.) LF Jesse Winker

    6.) DH J.D. Martinez

    7.) 2B Jeff McNeil

    8.) C Francisco Alvarez

    9.) CF Harrison Bader

    SP Tylor Megill

The Mets lineup will look to jump on the rookie Cannon and make him uncomfortable from the first inning.

    How to Watch
