Clemson Announcer Calls Out 'Embarrassment' For Georgia Ahead Of Week 1 Matchup

Clemson Tigers radio announcer Don Munson has an issue with the Georgia football program ahead of the Week 1 matchup between the two perennial powers.

The top-15 meeting will take place on Saturday at noon ET in Atlanta (ABC).

Munson's quarrel is in regards to UGA's bleak graduation rate, which came in at 41%. On the other side under Dabo Swinney, the Tigers have led the nation with a 99% graduation rate since 2016.

"There's life after football, Munson said on Sirius XM College Sports Radio. "Swinney goes about it right. There are other schools that haven't gotten on board with that, to be perfectly frank."

"And one of them, unfortunately, is in Athens (UGA)," Munson continued. "Their graduation rate was at 41 percent and I will keep on saying this. That's an embarrassment to the folks at Athens, an embarrassment to the university, and an embarrassment to the program. They need to be better than that."

Kirby Smart responded to an inquiry by the Athens Banner Herald about the poor graduation rate earlier this year.

“There are a lot of factors that impact those numbers, some are in our control and some are not,” Smart said in a statement. “Our academic people do a great job with our players. We are very proud of the fact that we had 19 student-athletes eligible to wear the graduate patch on their chest during the Orange Bowl.”

Graduation rate isn't the only thing that separates the two programs, which also represent different styles of coaching and leadership. Swinney isn't a fan of the transfer portal and didn't sign a single such player in the 2024 cycle. Georgia, on the other hand, has signed 15 transfers over the last two seasons. And for good reason, as UGA lost 40 players to the portal over that span.

One thing consistent between the two is a physical style of play that we will get to witness on Saturday. Graduation rate isn't going to be a factor when the ball is teed up in Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
