The Detroit Tigers have activated pitcher Casey Mize from the 60-day injured list, setting him up to start against the Boston Red Sox on Friday night.

In a series of roster moves, the Tigers also designated left-hander Joey Wentz for assignment and moved right-hander Alex Faedo from the 15-day to the 60-day injured list due to a shoulder strain.

Mize, who is 27 years old, last took the mound on June 30, earning a win against the Los Angeles Angels before suffering a left hamstring strain.

This season, he has a record of 2-6 with a 4.23 ERA, 21 walks, and 58 strikeouts over 78.2 innings in 16 starts. During his rehab stint at Triple-A Toledo, Mize posted a 2.63 ERA with four walks and 17 strikeouts in 13.2 innings.

The Tigers selected Mize as the first overall pick in the 2018 MLB draft. Over his career, he has a 9-19 record with a 4.28 ERA, 77 walks, and 206 strikeouts across 267.1 innings in 55 games, including three seasons before this year.

He has undergone Tommy John surgery in 2022 and back surgery in 2023.

Wentz, 26, last pitched on Thursday, facing the Angels where he allowed one hit and struck out three in two innings. This season, he has struggled with a 5.37 ERA and a record of 0-2, with 27 walks and 60 strikeouts in 55.1 innings across 38 appearances.

Faedo, 28, has a 5-3 record with a 3.61 ERA in 37 games this season. He was placed on the injured list after experiencing renewed shoulder soreness during a throwing session in Lakeland, Florida.

These roster changes come as the Tigers look to strengthen their pitching staff as they head into the final stretch of the season.
