Jets Still Have Edge Over 49ers Entering Week 1

Brandon Aiyuk's contract extension with the San Francisco 49ers came at the perfect time for the defending NFC champions.

That doesn't mean they have all their offensive concerns solved, though.

As the 49ers and New York Jets prepare for the start of the 2024 season in over a week, Gang Green knows they have an edge on the defensive side of the ball.

And the longer time goes by, the bigger that edge becomes.

See, if there's one player at the forefront of the success of San Francisco's offense, it's not Aiyuk, it's All-Pro left tackle Trent Williams. As the future Hall-of-Famer continues to sit out of practice, the Jets' defense gets closer to preparing for a week without the key part of their opponent's offense.

San Fran lost three in a row last season without Williams on the field - a sign that the organization desperately needs their left tackle.

For the Jets, the longer the 49ers can't get their All-Pro in the building, the less likely it is that the organization will be fielding a competent offensive line on opening night.

And that means big things for players like Jermaine Johnson, Will McDonald, and Quinnen Williams as well.
