The Philadelphia Phillies (79-56) came into tonight's game on the high of a come-from-behind victory over the Atlanta Braves (74-61) in last night's game. However, the good vibes would be doused early, as the Braves would take a 2-0 lead early that they would build on, and the Phillies would not overcome it, losing 7-2.

    Suarez's Night

Ranger Suarez (11-6, 3.02 ERA) took the mound for the Phillies tonight looking to build on his strong outing in his last start, his first off the injured list.

Suarez started the night very strong, striking out the first five batters he faced. He would face only 13 more batters after that stretch, and they would go 5-for-12 with two home runs, one double, and one walk.

Four of the Braves runs would come off of Suarez, pushing his ERA on the season above 3.00. He has faced the Braves three times this season, allowing three or more earned runs in each of the three starts.

    Notables

    • Braves shortstop Orlando Arcia entered today with a .306/.390/.500 line against the Phillies this season in 41 plate appearances. He would go 2-for-3 with two solo home runs and a walk tonight.
    • Alec Bohm was not in the lineup today due to left-hand soreness. Edmundo Sosa started at third in his place.
    • Kyle Schwarber would continue slumping, going 0-for-4 on the night with three strikeouts. He has batted .229/.328/.457 with six home runs and 19 RBI this month. Schwarber's .785 OPS in August is the second-worst OPS in a single month for Schwarber this season ahead of only April (.719).
    • Bryson Stott would open the scoring for the Phillies with a solo home run to lead off the fourth inning. It was his 10th home run of the season and gives him three consecutive seasons of 10 or more home runs to begin his career.

    WPA Leader of the Game

Tonight's WPA leader of the game was Braves starter Reynaldo Lopez (8-4, 2.00 ERA). Lopez pitched six fantastic innings for the Braves, allowing only one run on four hits and one walk while striking out six. Lopez has now started three games against the Phillies this season, allowing only two earned runs on 11 hits and five walks while striking out 22 in 17 innings.

Lopez's WPA score for the night would end at 22.2.

    Next Up

Next up for the Phillies is game three of this series against the Braves on Saturday. The first pitch for Saturday's game is scheduled for 7:15 PM EST. The game will be broadcast nationally on FOX.

Phillies fans can listen to the game on 94 WIP or WTTM 1680.
