Angel Reese is facing a new round of criticism after her team suffered a blowout loss at the hands of Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever on Friday.

The Fever went into halftime of the August 30 game with a 5-point lead but took control in the second half, increasing their lead to 27 points late in the fourth quarter. Even though the outcome of the game was not in question, Reese stayed on the floor until the end and secured a WNBA record when she made a layup with 1:32 remaining in the game.

Reese secured her 23rd double-double of the season with the basket, setting the all-time single-season mark among rookies.

But the way she set the record attracted plenty of criticism. Dave Portnoy of Barstool Sports noted that Reese stayed in late while Clark was pulled well before the end, with the Fever rookie scoring 31 points and dishing out 12 assists.

"Kinda funny watching Angel chase her double double record during the final 4 minutes of a 30 pt blowout while Caitlin checked out 2 hours ago to a standing O on the road," Portnoy wrote on X .

Others joined in criticizing Reese, suggesting that her late shot attempts cheapened the accomplishment. Reese has faced other allegations of stat-padding throughout her rookie season as she remained in games late to record double-doubles.
