Auburn Football Names Captains For 2024 Season

The Auburn Tigers have announced captains for the 2024 college football season.

Auburn kicks off the 2024 season tomorrow against the Alabama A&M Bulldogs and have announced captains for both the game and the rest of the schedule. Quarterback Payton Thorne, tight end Luke Deal, linebacker Eugene Asante, and safety Jerrin "Bug" Thompson are the selections.

Thorne enters his second season on the Plains after transferring in from Michigan State. Many are expecting him to improve on what ended up being a lackluster 2023 campaign. Deal, who enters his sixth and final season with the Tigers, has made his mark as a player outside of the stat columns, instead becoming one of team's leaders on the field as a blocker and off of the field as a leader.

Bug Thompson transferred in from Texas this offseason and immediately stepped into a vocal leadership role. Of course, Asante is right there with him when it comes to communicating to his team. Nobody matches his energy.

Auburn vs Alabama A&M will kick off at 6:30 p.m. CT inside Jordan-Hare Stadium. The game will be televised on SEC Network+ and ESPN+ . Lowell Galindo and Fozzy Whittaker will call the game on the TV broadcast.

Auburn vs Alabama A&M series history

The Tigers have only faced off against the Bulldogs twice in their series history. The first contest came back during the 2012 season, arguably Auburn's worst of the modern era. The Tigers still prevailed 51-7 to earn their third and final victory of the year.

The second and more recent game was in 2016, a 55-0 win for Auburn in Jordan-Hare Stadium. Alabama A&M amassed just 130 yards of total offense in the shutout, rushing for just 1.1 yards per carry. Auburn, on the other hand, finished with 598 yards of total offense, 451 of those yards coming on the ground. Kam Martin led the way with 176 yards and two scores. Kerryon Johnson also finished with over 100 yards rushing. Quarterbacks John Franklin III and Jeremy Johnson combined for three rushing touchdowns.
