Deion Sanders Gets Brutally Honest With Team In Locker Room After Win Over NDSU

The Colorado Buffaloes escaped in their season opener against North Dakota State, squeezing out a 31-26 victory.

While Colorado fans were presumably thrilled to get back in the win column for the first time since before last Halloween, head coach Deion Sanders wasn't thrilled with the performance. In a video uploaded by Well Off Media, Sanders told the team in the locker room that even though they had more points, it felt like a loss.

"You ever felt like you had more points than the other team but they won," Sanders asked while speaking to the team. "That's how I feel right now. I feel like we had more points but they won."

Heading into the game, ESPN had Colorado favored by 11.5 points, but it was the Bison who dominated the first half. They had the ball for over 21 minutes, while Colorado had it for about eight. The FCS power went into the half with a 20-17 lead.

The adjustments at half-time by new Colorado defensive coordinator Robert Livingston seemed to do the trick, as they held the Bison scoreless in the third. However, with the Buffs leading 31-20 in the fourth, North Dakota State was able to charge down the field and cut the lead to five thanks to a Cam Miller 20-yard touchdown run.

North Dakota State then forced the Buffs to punt the next possession but simply didn't have enough time to pull off the upset. However, it was clear when Sanders was speaking to the team, and specifically the defense, that he felt they didn't do enough.

The head coach called out his pass rushers for not getting to the quarterback and expressed that the defense was schemed the right way, but they didn't execute.

Colorado will have to learn from their mistakes and move on quickly, as their Week 2 game will see them head to Nebraska for a major rivalry matchup. According to DraftKings, the Corn Huskers are favored by a touchdown.
