The Los Angeles Angels have designated veteran pitcher Johnny Cueto for assignment after just two starts with the team.

Cueto, 38, struggled during his brief tenure, allowing nine runs over 11⅓ innings, resulting in two losses. His most recent outing saw him give up six runs, including three home runs, in a five-inning performance against the Detroit Tigers.

Despite his challenges on the mound, Cueto's presence was valuable to the younger pitchers on the Angels' roster. His experience and work ethic were seen as beneficial for the team's development.

Cueto joined the Angels on July 24 after being released by the Texas Rangers. Before his promotion to the major leagues on August 21, he had a solid run at Triple-A Salt Lake City, going 3-0 in four starts.

This marks Cueto's sixth team in a career that began with the Cincinnati Reds. He has a record of 144-113 and a 3.52 ERA across 370 major league games.

With Cueto's departure, the Angels are looking to give opportunities to younger pitchers. They have called up left-hander Sam Aldegheri and right-hander Caden Dana from Double-A Rocket City.

Aldegheri made his major league debut recently and is noted as the first player born and raised in Italy to pitch in the majors. Dana, regarded as the top pitching prospect in the organization, is set to start on Sunday.

Additionally, the Angels placed right-hander Carson Fulmer on the injured list due to elbow inflammation and transferred José Marte to the 60-day injured list.
