The San Francisco 49ers could be set to trade wide receiver Deebo Samuel to the Carolina Panthers. This move comes as the team navigates roster cuts ahead of the 2024 NFL season and is expected to continue discussions leading up to the trade deadline.

The 49ers recently signed Brandon Aiyuk to a substantial four-year, $120 million extension, raising questions about Samuel's future with the team.

With Trent Williams holding out for a new contract and Brock Purdy also due for a new deal, the 49ers find themselves in a tight salary cap situation, projected to be over $28 million in the red for 2025.

To alleviate some of this financial pressure, trading Samuel could potentially be a viable option.

The Panthers, under new head coach Dave Canales, are looking to bolster their offense and provide quarterback Bryce Young with more weapons.

They have already made strides by drafting Jonathon Brooks and Ja’Tavion Sanders and trading for Diontae Johnson. However, they still need a standout player to elevate their offense, especially with veteran Adam Thielen now 34 years old.

At 28, Samuel would be a significant addition for the Panthers. He had a productive 2023 season, amassing 1,038 receiving yards and seven touchdowns, while also demonstrating his ability to gain yards after the catch.

His versatility and experience would not only benefit Young's development but also serve as a mentor for rookie Jonathan Mingo, who shares a similar playing style.

This potential trade could set the foundation for a more dynamic and sustainable offense in Carolina, helping to accelerate their rebuilding efforts.
