Oklahoma Fans Inside Stadium Start New Heartfelt Tradition

The No. 16 Oklahoma Sooners opened the 2024 college football season with a 51-3 blowout win over the Temple Owls on Friday night. This marked the eighth straight opening-game win for the Sooners, dating back to 2017.

Prior to the season starting, the Sooners revealed that they would add to the fan experience throughout the 2024 season by introducing a sing-along song during the break between the third and fourth quarters. However, they did not reveal what the song would be until the game.

Turns out, the song of choice was "Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue" by late Sooners fan Toby Keith, who grew up in Clinton, Oklahoma. After the third quarter, the lights went out, and the fans at Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium all joined in singing along.

This new tradition is expected to happen at the same time during each Oklahoma home game throughout the entire season. It remains to be seen if they will continue with it next year.

The tribute comes after Keith passed away in his sleep back in February due to a two-year battle with stomach cancer.

Oklahoma sophomore quarterback Jackson Arnold got off to a solid start to the season, completing 17 of his 25 passes for 141 yards and four touchdowns. But it was the ground game that made the difference in the win for the Sooners.

On 35 attempts, Oklahoma recorded 217 yards, an average of 6.2 yards per carry. Temple only tallied 69 rushing yards, less than a third of the Sooners' total.
