Former Texas quarterback Maalik Murphy has a bright future with the Duke Blue Devils.

Murphy transferred from Texas to Duke this offseason as it appeared he would not receiving significant playing time with the Longhorns due to Quinn Ewers returning for another season and backup Arch Manning in line to become his successor.

The Junipero Serra (Gardena, CA) product was a highly rated recruit coming out of high school. Murphy was a four-star prospect in the 2022 recruiting class and the No. 9 quarterback in the nation, according to 247Sports.

After redshirting his true freshman season in Austin, Murphy appeared in seven games and made two starts as a sophomore in 2023. He completed 40-of-71 passes for 477 yards, three touchdowns and one interception as a Longhorn.

Murphy is now poised for a breakout junior campaign with Duke if his Week 1 performance is any indication.

The Blue Devils kicked off its 2024 college football season on Friday night with a convincing 26-3 win over Elon. Murphy completed 26-of-40 passes for 291 yards and two touchdowns with one interception.

Here's a look at one of Murphy's best completions of the night.

Murphy will play his first road game for Duke at Northwestern on Friday, Sept. 6.
