Shohei Ohtani has made history by becoming the first player in Major League Baseball to hit 43 home runs and steal 43 bases in a single season.

In a thrilling game against the Diamondbacks, Ohtani went 2-for-4, contributing a solo home run, a double, a stolen base, and scoring twice in the Dodgers' 10-9 victory.

Alex Rodriguez was previously the only player to reach 42-42 in a season.

Ohtani got there with a solo homer in the eighth inning.

After a slow start in August, Ohtani has rebounded impressively, hitting safely in 10 of his last 12 games. During this stretch, he has recorded 16 hits in 49 at-bats, including six home runs, 10 RBIs, and eight stolen bases.

As he did when he reached 40-40 in record time and tied Rodriguez at 42-42, Ohtani achieved both numbers in the same game. It marked the 11th time this year that he has posted a homer and a steal in the same game, two short of Rickey Henderson's single-season MLB record, per The Athletic's Fabian Ardaya .

His current season stats include a .294 batting average, .379 on-base percentage, and .620 slugging percentage, along with 96 RBIs, 106 runs scored, 30 doubles, and six triples across 132 games.

MLB.com's Sarah Langs notes that the only other player in MLB history to post a 10-15 month was Carlos Beltrán in August 2004.

With 27 games remaining in the season, Ohtani is on track to potentially join the exclusive 50-50 club, a milestone that has never been achieved in MLB history.
