" While playing basketball outside of Dallas on August 27, after attempting a contested layup, Jackson II experienced an unstable landing on his right foot. Subsequent imaging revealed a broken fifth metatarsal in his right foot, which will require surgery to repair ," the team's PR team wrote. They also added that the surgery is scheduled for September 4 and that more information will be provided following the procedure.

This is a major setback for the Grizzlies, who had hoped for a fresh start after a season plagued by injuries. The loss of Jackson, a promising young talent, particularly frustrates the team and fans.

A familiar injury with a tricky recovery

The broken fifth metatarsal is not a career-ending injury, but it has a reputation for recurring. Many players who have suffered this type of fracture, known as a Jones fracture, have experienced multiple breaks. One such example is CJ McCollum, who dealt with two fractures in the same year.
