The hockey community is still reeling from the heartbreaking news of the tragic passing of Columbus Blue Jackets forward Johnny Gaudreau, 31, and his brother, 29-year-old Matthew Gaudreau, who were killed in a car accident in Oldmans Township, Salem County, on Thursday, August 29.

The two brothers were struck by a car while riding their bicycles. The driver, 43-year-old Sean Higgins, has been charged with two counts of death by auto after admitting to drinking before the accident.

In the wake of the tragedy, the Gaudreau family has received an outpouring of support from players, fans and the broader hockey community. To further assist the Gaudreau family during this difficult time, a GoFundMe campaign has been launched by Holland Korbitz, a member of the Gaudreau extended family.

The funds raised through this campaign will be directed toward supporting Matthew Gaudreau’s family, including his unborn son, who is expected soon. Personalities from across the hockey world are already showing massive support and love to the family.

NHL confirmed on X, formerly Twitter, that within two hours after the campaign was launched, it has already surpassed the $30,000 goal by more than $15,000 as of writing.

The Gaudreau family expressed their gratitude for the overwhelming love and support they have received.

"Last night we lost two husbands, two fathers, two sons, two brothers, two sons and brothers-in-law, two nephews, two cousins, two family members, two teammates, two friends but truly two amazing humans," their uncle, Jim Gaudreau, posted on Facebook .

"We want to let everyone know we are receiving your messages of love and support and we appreciate your continued thoughts and prayers," the statement added. "We ask for your continued respect and privacy during this very difficult period of grief."

The GoFundMe campaign stands as a testament to the strength and unity of the hockey community, which has come together to support one of its own in the face of such a profound loss. All funds raised will go directly to the Gaudreau family to help them through this challenging time.
