Romania Makes Huge Jordan Chiles Announcement After Swiss Federal Tribunal Meeting

Though the Court of Arbitration for Sport may have taken an Olympic bronze medal away from USA gymnast Jordan Chiles, it appears the Romanian Gymnastics Federation is fighting to help her get it back.

And the latest update after the RGF’s meeting with the Swiss Federal Tribunal might lead to exactly that.

According to a post on the RGF’s Instagram page, the organization appears to be taking steps toward a resolution that’s mutually beneficial for all three gymnasts at the center of the medal controversy — Chiles, third-place finisher Ana Barbosu and fourth-place finisher Sabrina Voinea.

“The Romanian Gymnastics Federation prioritizes the health and emotional stability of the three athletes Ana Maria Barbosu, Sabrina Maneca-Voinea and Jordan Chiles,” the statement read. “This was and is the fundamental reason why the Romanian Gymnastics Federation pleaded permanently for awarding three bronze medals to the three athletes affected by the procedure and technical errors in the Olympic floor finals.

“Following the proceedings taken at the Swiss Federal Court, the Romanian Gymnastics Federation, through its lawyers, has sent an invitation for dialogue to all parties involved.”

While it’s quite clear what the next steps are, it sounds like a meeting, at the very least, will happen involving all three gymnasts at the Swiss Federal Tribunal’s behest.

The RGF has been adamant since the appeal process began that its ultimate goal was for all three gymnasts to share the bronze medal, and it appears that’s the solution the Swiss Supreme Court appears to be leaning toward as well.
