Georgia Hit With Major Setback Before Week 1 Game

Ahead of Saturday's highly anticipated matchup between Georgia and Clemson, the Bulldogs will be without one of their star players.

Georgia enters the matchup having won 39 of its last 40 games, including two national championships in 2021 and 2022.

However, things just got more difficult for Kirby Smart and the Dawgs on Saturday, as star running back Trevor Etienne will be suspended for the game vs. Clemson due to his offseason legal troubles.

Etienne was expected to start at running back, but with Roderick Robinson out due to a toe injury, it now seems that sophomore Branson Robinson is next in line for carries, with freshman Nate Frazier backing him up.

After Etienne was charged, he later accepted a plea deal, which resulted in the DUI charge being dropped. He pleaded no contest to reckless driving, was found guilty of failing to maintain his lane, and was also found guilty of underage alcohol possession and a window tint violation.

Etienne makes way from Georgia's rival, Florida. In the past two seasons for the Gators, he ran for a combined 1,472 yards and 14 touchdowns.

It is expected Etienne will be back for Georgia's second game versus Tennessee Tech on Sept. 7.

With senior quarterback Carson Beck returning for his second season as the starter, he's still looking to follow in the glory of former quarterback Stetson Bennett by bringing another title home to Athens. Georgia is expected to bring back over half of last year's starters, boasting significant depth, possibly the greatest in college football.
