Former Alabama head coach Nick Saban is taking the stage this morning in his first season as a host on ESPN's "College GameDay." Meanwhile, in Tuscaloosa, Kalen DeBoer is getting set for his first career game as the new head man of the Crimson Tide.

Saban had a glowing take on his predecessor when asked about the former Washington head coach ahead of Alabama's matchup against Western Kentucky at 7 p.m. ET.

"Kalen has done a great job in taking over this program because he's got the right disposition about him," he said .

"He embraced the tradition. He embraced the culture. But he put he put his own mark on how he wanted to coach the team. I'm really, really excited about what Kalen's going to do for Alabama."

Saban's transition into retirement is a unique one but deserved after leading the Crimson Tide to six national championships in his 17-year tenure. He stills holds an office in Tuscaloosa and is ready to provide some wisdom if DeBoer calls.

"I just kind of back off, Saban said. "If he calls and asks I'm glad to give him my opinion about something."

The No. 5 Crimson Tide will take on Western Kentucky from Bryant-Denny Stadium at 7 p.m. ET (ESPN).
