Angel Reese No Longer Getting Free Pass from Fans for Stat-Padding

There wasn’t much to like about the Chicago Sky’s performance in their 100-81 home loss to the Indiana Fever on Friday night.

However, it can’t be overlooked that rookie forward Angel Reese made history in the blowout loss, breaking two WNBA records. Reese broke Tina Charles’ record for most double-doubles by a rookie (23) and most single-season rebounds by a rookie (399), and she’s on track to shatter the WNBA rookie record for most rebounds per game.

But as fans saw on Friday, Reese’s rookie resume may be a bit inflated thanks to some garbage-time stat-padding, and it seems like fans are no longer sitting idly by while it happens as Reese was roasted on social media over what happened.

Even Barstool Sports owner Dave Portnoy, who's been a clear Day 1 Caitlin Clark supporter, chimed in on Reese's actions.

The Fever pulled most of their starters with several minutes left in the fourth quarter, but the Sky puzzlingly kept Reese in the game.

The 22-year-old has been accused of stat-padding several times this season, but Friday’s incident was blatantly obvious as she scored five of her 10 points and logged four of her 11 rebounds with the game already decided.

Reese has had a double-double in six of the Sky’s seven games since the Olympic break. However, the team is just 1-7 in those games and Reese has been under fire for being more concerned about her individual numbers than the team’s success.
