'So Much Work To Do!' Commanders Rebuild On The Right Track

As the Washington Commanders were preparing for new season last year, the sale of the team to Josh Harris was completed. Following a dismal 4-13 season, Harris stripped the team down to bare bones and started over.

The hiring of general manager Adam Peters and coach Dan Quinn signaled a new era in D.C.

Ben Standig from the Athletic did a recent survey and one NFL agent believes that Quinn and Peters were the right guys for the job.

The front office and coaching needed seismic changes,” the agent said. “They were wise in free agency and drafted a quarterback (Jayden Daniels) at two. I do not see immediate success, but adding the required building blocks has begun.

“Dan Quinn is the perfect hire as head coach for the needed culture change. I love the pairing with (GM Adam) Peters. They have so much work to do beyond football.”

Peters spent the last few years in San Francisco as assistant general manager learning from John Lynch. Another agent believes that he made one huge change that will impact this team.

Look at his time with the 49ers and the start with Washington,’ another agent said. “They’ve already done an excellent job flipping around the scouting department. Just having a scouting structure is something that Washington hasn’t had for about 20 years. … No GM is the sole evaluator of a team.”

Player evaluations is a team effort, and the Commanders have moved in that direction. They have turned over quite a bit of the previous team in favor of “their guys” so it will be interesting to see how everything plays out this season.

The Commanders take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, Sept. 8 with kickoff set for 4:25 p.m. EDT.
