As the Tampa Bay Buccaneers prepare for the season, general manager Jason Licht has made it clear that head coach Todd Bowles has been instrumental in the team's roster transformation. Speaking to the media on Friday, Licht praised Bowles and his coaching staff for their commitment to developing younger players, a move that has positioned the Buccaneers for sustained success after their Super Bowl-winning era.

“One thing about Todd [Bowles] and his coaches is they’re not afraid to play young guys and they love to develop young guys,” said Licht. “That makes our job—my job—really easy, because we love young talent. We don’t love getting rid of older guys, that’s not the point. It’s [that] we want what’s best for the football team... we’re very happy with the way it’s worked, and now, we’re hoping to win this year, too.”

The Buccaneers underwent significant changes after their Super Bowl victory, shifting focus from a veteran-laden team led by Tom Brady to a more youthful roster. Bowles' willingness to play and develop younger talent has allowed the team to rebuild while remaining competitive. Under Bowles' leadership, Tampa Bay made a return to the playoffs in 2023, and both he and Licht are hopeful the team can build on that momentum this season.

The relationship between Licht and Bowles stands out in the NFL as one of mutual trust and strategic alignment. This synergy has enabled the Buccaneers to make key roster decisions smoothly, from integrating rookies to making tough calls on veteran players. Their collaboration has fostered a cohesive environment where the focus remains on team development and long-term success.

Looking ahead to the season, the Buccaneers aim to capitalize on their rebuilt roster and continue their upward trajectory. With a young core in place and a strong partnership between the front office and coaching staff, Tampa Bay is setting its sights on another playoff push.

As the Buccaneers get ready for their season opener against the Washington Commanders on September 8 , they remain confident that the groundwork laid by Bowles and his staff will lead to a promising start.
