Many Ohio State Buckeye fans will tell you that Kirk Herbstreit is one of the most critical college football analysts when it comes to the team in Columbus. While he can sometimes be brutally honest about his alma mater, he also doesn’t hesitate to set the record straight when there is a misconception.

ESPN recently released a report detailing Ohio State’s $20 million investment in its 2024 roster, and many fans know they had to use some of those funds to reel in top talents like safety Caleb Downs, quarterback Will Howard and running back Quinshon Judkins. However, some fans felt that’s where all the money went, and Herbstreit needed to address it on “College GameDay."

“I think the perception is they went out and brought people in to strengthen the roster, and I’m just saying it’s about coming together as a team,” Herbstreit said.

That was in response to a point of agreement with Rece Davis, where he said the $20 million went to retaining key pieces of the Ohio State defense. The Buckeyes already seem like locks to make the CFP semifinal, according to many college football analysts. Those transfer additions are a big part of that, but clearly, so are the returning stars that could have left for the NFL.
