Urban Meyer Changed His Mind About Former Team Losing In Week 1

At one point this week, former college football coach Urban Meyer believed Miami would beat Florida in The Swamp. But on Saturday, he reconsidered his position.

On Fox's Big Noon Kickoff leading into the Week 1 matchup between Penn State and West Virginia, the crew discussed Miami vs. Florida, where Meyer commented on the dire situation for both schools.

“How about the Florida Gators could possibly be underdogs in eight games?" he asked. "Billy Napier has lost 10 of 13 Power Five (games). But on the other side, you got Mario Cristobal. They’re struggling too. He’s only 12-13."

With poor starts to both of these coaches' tenures in the Sunshine State, Meyer believes this is a must-win either way.

"This is inflection point time," said Meyer. "Because the loser of this game, this season can get away from them real fast, especially the Gators.”

With slightly more on the line for Florida and Billy Napier being at home and needing to, at minimum, make a bowl game, Meyer sees the Gators rallying to win.

"Early in the week, I picked Miami, but the more I think about it, everyone in Gainesville, and I’ve been there. I’m going Gators at 3:30 (ET).”

Urban Meyer just couldn't finalize his pick of Miami to beat his former team on their own home field.
