Cameras Catch Fever Teammate’s Hilarious Attempt to Defuse Caitlin Clark’s Heated Outburst

Indiana Fever guard Erica Wheeler wasn’t going to risk it.

Late in the fourth quarter of Friday’s 100-81 win over the Chicago Sky, rookie phenom Caitlin Clark was fuming after taking some unnecessarily violent hits from Sky guard Diamond DeShields.

The 22-year-old dropped an F-bomb or two as she let out her frustration with the officiating on the sideline after coming out of the game, and rather than risk Clark getting assessed a technical foul for her conduct — and subsequently one step closer to a one-game suspension — Wheeler shut her up the only way she knew how.

A video clip started circulating on social media of Wheeler cramming a towel in Clark’s face, which subsequently quieted her down and kept her from drawing the ire of the officials.

And if the video itself wasn’t amusing enough, a screen grab of Wheeler’s face after she toweled down her teammate was equally hilarious.

Clark is just two technical fouls away from having to serve a one-game suspension, so perhaps she owes Wheeler a thank you for helping keep her from inching closer to having to sit out.
