College Football Player's Leapfrog Over Referee Goes Viral

Wisconsin triumphed over Western Michigan on Friday night with a score of 28-14.

The Broncos briefly held a one-point advantage early in the fourth quarter, but the Badgers rallied to score the last 15 points. This rally included a two-point conversion that brought the score to 21-14 with 10:35 left in the fourth quarter. During that play, an incredibly rare event occurred, the likes of which may never have been seen before in a game.

As Trech Kekahuna secured Tyler Van Dyke's pass in the end zone's far reaches, the back judge crouched for a closer inspection of the receiver's feet. In that moment, Western Michigan's junior cornerback, Nyquann Washington, executed a leapfrog over him, placing his hands on the official's back and vaulting cleanly over.

It may have occurred before, but in an NCAA DI football game? The fact that it wasn't part of a celebration, but seemed to be out of necessity, is even more astonishing.

The clip has since boomed on X (formerly Twitter). On three separate posts, it has garnered a combined 730,000 views, with the most popular one getting over 466,000 views, respectively.

Or perhaps not. Had this occurred after the player's team scored, it likely would have resulted in a harsh penalty for the player.

It will be interesting to see if someone tries this maneuver in the near future, whether it's in the SEC, ACC, Big 12, Big Ten, or any other major conference.

Coming off the victory, Wisconsin will next face South Dakota on Sept. 7 at 3:30 p.m. ET.

Western Michigan's time against Power 4 teams is not done yet, taking on Ohio State on Sept. 7 at 7:30 p.m. ET.
