Demand Increases For College Football Coach's Firing After Rough Week 1 Start

On Saturday afternoon, the Virginia Tech Hokies opened up the 2024 college football season with a visit to Nashville to face the Vanderbilt Commodores.
Coach Brent Pry and the Hokies could not have asked for a worse start to a game in which they were favored by nearly two touchdowns (13.5 points). With 5:18 remaining in the second quarter, Virginia Tech found themselves down 17-0.
On their very first possession of the season, the Hokies came out and, after what seemed like a promising drive, ended in an interception. Their second possession of the game ended in a punt. Their third drive of the first half brought them to the red zone, but they settled for a field goal late in the second quarter after failing to convert on third-and-long. The score at halftime was 17-3 in favor of Vandy.
Virginia Tech was expected to blowout Vanderbilt by many, as the Commodores are considered the worst team in the SEC and finished with a 2-10 record last season. The Hokies ended 2023 at 7-6 and a bowl win.
Pry, who has been with the school as the head coach since 2022, was instantly called out online by many college football fans, demanding Virginia Tech fire the third-year coach who has a total record of 10-14 with the school.
They took to social media to leave their comments on the game and Pry.
"Alright it’s time to fire Brent Pry VA Tech been firing coaches for a decade now who stink"
"I don’t care. Brent Pry has to go man. Can’t recover from this.."
"Hokies stink! Let me be the first to say it: Fire Brent Pry!"
"Fire Brent Pry. Get him out of here."
"Starting it off early… Fire Brent Pry… he aint it bro"
"Bubblescreen on 3rd and 15 in the red zone? Fire Brent Pry"
Pry previously worked for the Penn State Nittany Lions as the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach from 2011-2021. He played safety for the Buffalo Bulls from 1989-1991.
