Demand Grows For Powerhouse Program To Fire Coordinator After Week 1

The Clemson Tigers had a tall task ahead of them in their first game of the college football season. They had a standing giant in front of them in the No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs.

Despite the Tigers coming into the game as heavy underdogs, fans were infuriated at Clemson's offensive coordinator, Garrett Riley.

Clemson headed into the locker room down 6-0. Their defensive front put the Tigers on their back, battling in the trenches to make it a physical game with their ultra-talent defensive lineman Peter Woods and DeMonte Capehart.

The Tigers' quarterback, Cade Klubnik passed for just 76 yards in the first and was able to earn just two first downs for Clemson. He had trouble passing over the secondary and would rarely look for a vertical play downfield.

Riley came into the mix in 2023, with the expectation that he would help boost the Tigers' offense behind Klubnik.

That hasn't been the case, and despite Clemson playing against one of the top defenses, fans want Riley fired after his performance.

"Garrett Riley might get fired at halftime," said one fan. "Yikes."

"I feel bad for Clemson fans," said another fan. "They thought Garrett Riley was the answer."

"If our offense looks like this the rest of the year Garrett Riley has to be on the hot seat right?" commented another fan.

Riley has been jumping around various programs for the past few years. He won the Broyles Award, which is given to the best assistant coach in college football with the TCU Horned Frogs in 2022.

Prior to to his short stint at TCU, he was SMU Mustangs offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

He's known to be a "QB guru," but it's clear that the Tigers have struggled under his leadership.

In Riley's first season with Klubnik, he ushered the QB through his first year as a full-time starter. The 6-foot-2 signal caller finished the 2023 season with 19 touchdowns, nine interceptions, and 2,844 yards.

Their matchup against Georgia may be a tough introduction into the season for Riley and Klubnik, but they'll have a three-game home stand following Week 1.

"If Clemson wants to win this season, they need to fire Garrett Riley NOW." said one fan.

"Garrett Riley should’ve stayed at TCU." said another fan.

"I truly believe Garrett Riley is holding Klubnik and this Clemson offense back," commented another. "At a loss for words."
