Lewis Hamilton is frustrated after a disappointing qualifying session for the Italian Grand Prix, where he secured a sixth-place start.

Despite his strong track record, Hamilton felt he missed an opportunity to be at the front of the grid, citing mistakes that cost him valuable time.

"I am furious, absolutely furious. I could have been on pole, at least on the front row. I just didn't do the job," Hamilton lamented after securing a modest sixth position on the grid.

Hamilton's disappointment was palpable as he recounted the specific errors that cost him valuable time.

"I lost a tenth and a half into Turn One, and then a tenth in the last corner. No one to blame but myself," he admitted.

The qualifying session at Monza was competitive, with Lando Norris taking pole position, followed by Oscar Piastri and George Russell.

The session saw early excitement as Ferrari's Charles Leclerc set the pace before being overtaken by Norris and Piastri. A brief yellow flag incident involving Kevin Magnussen also added to the drama.

Hamilton acknowledged that qualifying has been a challenge for him recently, and he is determined to improve.

"Qualifying has been my weakness for a minute now and I can't figure it out. I will keep trying."

He expressed confidence in his team's performance, noting that they have provided him with a capable car.

"I will be kicking myself for the next couple of hours but I need to move forward. We have a good race car, the team have done an amazing job," he stated. "The car felt better and the team deserve better. Maybe they will get that with Kimi [Antonelli]," he added.

With both Mercedes cars showing strong potential in practice, there is optimism for the race ahead, especially with the extended DRS zone at Monza.

“I just didn’t do the job,” Hamilton admitted, but it isn't over yet for him.

As the season progresses, Hamilton's focus will be on turning around his qualifying fortunes and maximizing the capabilities of his car during the race.
