According to Joe Person of the Athletic , former Rams quarterback John Wolford has signed with the Carolina Panthers' practice squad as the team looks to bolster its quarterback depth. Currently, the Panthers have Bryce Young as their starting quarterback, with Andy Dalton backing him up. Wolford will join Jack Plummer on the practice squad.

Wolford's football journey began at Wake Forest, where he started every game during his four-year college career. He made history as the first true freshman to start all 12 games for the Demon Deacons and set several school records. His senior season was particularly impressive, as he threw for 3,192 yards, 29 touchdowns, and only six interceptions, earning second-team All-ACC honors.

After going undrafted in the 2018 NFL Draft, Wolford spent time on the New York Jets' practice squad before moving to the Alliance of American Football (AAF). He was picked by the Arizona Hotshots and quickly established himself as a standout player, leading the league in passing touchdowns with 14 in just eight games before the AAF folded.

In 2019, the Los Angeles Rams signed Wolford to their practice squad. He made his NFL debut in Week 17 of the 2020 season, stepping in for an injured Jared Goff and helping the Rams secure a playoff spot. He served as the backup quarterback in 2021 and was part of the team that won Super Bowl LVI against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Wolford started three games in 2022 after Matthew Stafford was injured, but most of the season was dominated by Baker Mayfield. In those three games, Wolford passed for 390 yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions.

As he joins the Panthers, Wolford aims to make an impact and continue his NFL career.
