Fans Call For College Football Coach’s Removal Despite Week 1 Win

    By Alex Weber,

Following a narrow win over old Old Dominion for South Carolina football, Gamecock fans are furious with head coach Shane Beamer.

To say South Carolina escaped their Week 1 game would be an understatement. They were in an ugly brawl for most of the contest and got down 19-16 late in the game.

With the Monarchs driving to potentially extend the lead to two scores, South Carolina flipped fate and snatched up a fumble. Two plays later, quarterback LaNorris Sellers found the end zone to take the lead.

On their final offensive drive, Old Dominion got bit by the turnover snake again and coughed possession up on an interception, which effectively ended the ball game.

SC wins, but barely. It's safe to say fans were none too pleased. Especially this account on X:

That account wasn't the only one to question Beamer's job security following a poor Week 1.

This guy even likes Shane Beamer, but knows that the results on the field aren't on track for the success South Carolina would like.

But this guy... did not like Shane Beamer so much.

Through three years in Columbia, Beamer has seasons of 7-6, 8-5 and then 5-7 under his belt. A second straight losing season is the last thing he needs in 2024. A loss Saturday would have made that possibility a near-certain reality.

But now, the Gamecocks can regroup at 1-0 knowing they still have every possibility in front of them despite a terrible Week 1 outing.
