College Football Fans Already Picked Billy Napier's Replacement After Week 1 Loss

Florida head coach Billy Napier came into the 2024 college football season with his seat scorching hot.

His 11-14 record through his first two years on the job hasn't invoked confidence in anyone, and Florida's schedule this season will not do him any favors when it comes to getting his record above .500. According to ESPN's FPI , the Gators have the toughest schedule in college football, with eight of their 12 games being against ranked opponents.

They opened the year on Saturday against No. 19 Miami, and were throttled by the new-look Hurricanes. The 24-point beatdown has college football fans already talking about Napier's job security, and some have even identified his replacement.

The popular name to replace Napier just one game into the season is new Washington coach Jedd Fisch.

"I just want to be the first person to congratulate Jedd Fisch as the new HC at Florida," joked one user.

"The good news is Jedd Fisch wants to restore this program to greatness," added another Florida fan.

"Jedd fisch YOU are the head football coach of the 2025 Florida Gators," chimed in another.

In most cases, a coach who inked a deal worth over $50 million just past this offseason wouldn't already be linked to a new job. However, Fisch is a two-time Florida graduate and worked for the team as a graduate assistant under the legendary Steve Spurrier.

He bounced around the NFL for a while and got his first opportunity as a head coach at UCLA in 2017 when he was named the interim head coach. He returned to the NFL for three years before being named the head coach at Arizona.

When he took the job in Tucson, the program was viewed as one of the worst programs in college football. However, he led them to an improved record each year, going 1-11 in his first year, 5-7 in his second and 10-3 this past year.

The belief around college football was that had he stuck around at Arizona for 2024, he would not only be able to build off his stellar 2023 season but command more money as Napier's replacement. Instead, he was involved in what may have been the most eventful coaching cycle in recent memory.

When Alabama's Nick Saban opted to retire, coaches around the country either received massive extensions or were on the move because of it. However, there was one move that led to Fisch ending up in Seattle. Washington's Kalen DeBoer left for Tuscaloosa even though he led the Huskies to a title appearance, and Fisch jumped on the opportunity to coach in the Big Ten.

Whether or not he would leave after one year is unclear, but the chance to revive his alma mater may be hard to pass up.

I wouldn’t want to coach for the gators. The expectations are too high. They expect you to win a championship your first year they no way that’s gonna happen and All goes down to the recruiting process.
