Lando Norris has brushed off concerns about his starting performance ahead of the Italian Grand Prix at Monza, where he recently secured pole position.

Despite facing challenges with his starts in previous races, including a setback in Zandvoort, Norris is confident that McLaren has made significant improvements.

Norris acknowledges that he struggled off the line in recent events, notably losing ground to Max Verstappen in Spain.

However, he believes the team has identified key areas for enhancement during their practice sessions at Monza.

When asked if he was worried about a repeat of his recent struggles off the line, Norris confidently interrupted the journalist, saying, as quoted by PlanetF1 :

    "I’m not."

Both Norris and his teammate, Oscar Piastri, faced difficulties with their starts at the Dutch Grand Prix, but they have been working diligently to address these issues.

With McLaren locking out the front row at Monza, both drivers are in a strong position for the race.

Norris's optimism about the team's progress suggests they are ready to tackle the challenges of the start, especially with the long run to the first corner at Monza.

The upcoming race will be a crucial test to see if their efforts translate into a successful launch and potentially another victory for Norris.

Piastri also sees the start as a critical opportunity, emphasizing the need for the team to improve their performance compared to previous races.

He notes that the strategy remains uncertain, as tire performance over longer runs has yet to be fully tested. The race promises to be an intriguing contest, especially after the first lap.

“I think the start is always a good opportunity. It’s a long run to Turn 1 here.

“Obviously, we as a team need to do a bit of a better job than last week unless we plan on doing bad starts and just creating a roadblock.

“I think that is an opportunity, but there will be more opportunities tomorrow.

“I think the strategy is still a bit of a question mark. No one’s really done more than 10 laps on a set of tires, so it’ll be interesting to see what happens.

“I think it’ll be a pretty interesting one even after the first lap.”
