LSU Head Coach Brian Kelly Goes on Scathing Rant Following Loss to USC

The LSU Tigers have yet to win a season opener under head coach Brian Kelly.
With three straight Week 1 losses, Kelly admitted after Sunday’s 27-20 defeat to the USC Trojans that he’s not doing his job as the Tigers’ head coach during an impassioned post-game rant in which he struck the table as he vented about the mistakes his team keeps making.
“We’ve got some guys who played their butts off tonight and we’re sitting here again, sitting here again talking about the same things,” Kelly declared. “About not finishing when you have an opponent in a position to put them away. But what we’re doing on the sideline is feeling like the game’s over. And I’m so angry about it that I ‘ve got to do something about it. I’m not doing a good enough job as a coach.”
Kelly also admitted this was the first time he’s ever been mad at his team since taking over the LSU job in 2022.
He pointed to the 10 penalties the Tigers took that cost them 99 yards of field position. He brought up the defense not playing complementary football with the offense (LSU 421 yards of total offense and allowed 447 yards on defense).
And he also mentioned the fact that LSU didn’t capitalize on its chances at the end of the game to put away USC, particularly on the Trojans’ final touchdown drive in which they went 75 yards on eight plays and scored the go-ahead touchdown with just eight seconds left in the game.
Kelly managed to salvage 10-win seasons in his first two years with LSU, but he’s presumably on a short leash this season. Another loss or two and Kelly’s seat could become scorchingly hot.
