The Memphis Grizzlies are loaded with talent and promise as they are about to compete this upcoming season.

After placing dead last year from points per game (105.8), field goal efficiency (43.5%), and offensive rating (107.2), the Grizzlies will embrace brand-new beginnings to redeem and showcase their elite firepower again. Barring any unfortunate injuries that could occur, everyone within the roster can capably produce in various areas, whether it's the inside play or beyond the arc.

Out of the scoring potential they possess as a group, Ja Morant is highly anticipated to lead the charge.

Ja predicted to lead Memphis in scoring

As all eyes are tuned in towards his statement season, Morant is expected to spearhead Memphis in its scoring department. Grant Hughes wrote a piece for Bleacher Report that discusses his prediction of 30 teams’ respective top scorers for the next 2024-25, and he argued that the Grizzlies sensation is slated to seize that big-time responsibility for the Bluff City.

“Morant is still preposterously athletic, still gifted with one of the craftiest handles in the game, and could view this year as a way to prove he's the same guy he was prior to his recent lost season. If he finally figures out how to hit threes at even a league-average clip, look out,” Hughes wrote.

    Head of the snake

Morant shouldered the Grizzlies’ offensive load in their back-to-back successful seasons of winning 50+ games by tallying 27.4 and 26.2 points, respectively, in a respectable efficiency. He was a terrorizing star to guard amongst his opponents with his athleticism and relentless attacks. And when given such space to create, he won't think twice about delivering highlight reel plays that guarantee entertainment for the entire league.

Even in past season's generally rough campaign, Ja was still able to lead the Grizzlies. After a 25-game suspension, he went off with 25.1 points across nine games before he got shut down for the remainder of 2023-24 to undergo an elbow surgery.

The Grizzlies cannot land in their desired position if Ja won't live up to the expectations of being the head of the snake. As he is now rejuvenated and motivated to perform after a humbling experience from last year, we can only hope that he won't just be confined to spearheading the Grizzlies in points average. More than scoring, he also has to step up and act like a true leader that the entire Memphis team will gladly follow.
