WNBA Rookie Makes Opinion of Caitlin Clark Extremely Clear

Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark continued her torrid run since the Olympic break in Sunday's win over the Dallas Wings. Finishing with 28 points and 12 assists, Clark improved her season averages to 18.7 points and 8.4 assists.

Dallas tried several defensive schemes against Clark, but the star rookie was able to counter all of them en route to her sixth game with at least 20 points and 10 assists (most in the WNBA this season).

Wings rookie Jacy Sheldon played 37 minutes in the loss to Indiana and was often tasked with the Clark assignment. With experience defending Clark in college, the former Ohio State star was unable to slow her down.

Speaking with reporters after the game ( via Joey Mistretta of ClutchPoints ), Sheldon made her opinion of Clark extremely clear.

“She’s a really good player, everybody sees it,” Sheldon said. “You just look forward to those matchups when you’re a competitor… She can really pass. She can pass the crap out of the ball. That’s what makes her so hard to guard honestly. You kind of got to pick your battles… But obviously she's a great player.”

As Sheldon emphasized, Clark's passing ability is what makes her so difficult to defend. Leading the WNBA in assists, Clark is on pace to break the league's single-season assists record.

Needing just 41 more assists to break the WNBA's single-season assists record, Clark would need to average 5.9 assists per game the rest of the year to stand alone atop that category ( h/t StatMamba ).
